Care before and after your surgery

Following these recommendations is essential to support a safe procedure and an appropriate recovery.

Care items for postoperative recovery

Before surgery

  • Fasting: Maintain a minimum fast of eight hours. Your last food and drink should be the night before surgery. From that point forward, do not eat or drink anything, including water, coffee, gum, or sweets, unless our team provides specific instructions.
  • Medications: Tell us about every medication, vitamin, and supplement you use. Some may need to be paused before surgery. Do not stop prescribed medication without medical guidance.
  • Avoid cigarettes, vaping, and alcoholic beverages before the procedure.
  • On the day of surgery, arrive without makeup, creams, sunscreen, contact lenses, or jewelry in the treatment area.
  • Wear comfortable clothing and come with an accompanying adult.

After surgery

  • Strictly follow the prescription and postoperative instructions provided by Dr. Iván De León and his team.
  • Cold compresses: During the first seven days, apply cold compresses to the periocular area for 10–15 minutes several times a day. Never place ice directly on the skin; use clean gauze or cloth and avoid pressure on the eyelids or incisions.
  • Sleeping position: Sleep on your back with your head elevated, especially during the first few days. Avoid sleeping face down or placing pressure on the operated area.
  • Physical activity: Avoid exercise, physical exertion, lifting heavy objects, and repeatedly bending over for the period indicated by the medical team.
  • Bathing and hygiene: You may bathe as usual. To wash your face, lather a mild soap and apply it gently. Allow shower water to run over your face, avoiding a strong stream directly on the incisions.
  • Do not use a towel directly on your face. Allow it to air dry or use clean gauze with light dabbing motions, without rubbing or applying pressure.
  • Do not rub, scratch, or manipulate your eyes, eyelids, or incisions.
  • Avoid cigarettes, vaping, and alcoholic beverages during recovery.
  • Do not use makeup, creams, drops, or other products on the operated area unless indicated or authorized by our team.
  • Attend your postoperative appointments on time and contact our team if you experience any symptom outside the expected course.
