What type of anesthesia is used?
Surgery is usually performed under local anesthesia and sedation, allowing for a comfortable and safe procedure without the need for general anesthesia.
What can I expect after surgery?
Swelling, mild bruising, a feeling of tightness, and slight sensitivity are normal during the first few days. Recovery is progressive, and much of the swelling decreases during the first 1–2 weeks.
When are the stitches removed?
When external sutures are used, they are generally removed between 10 and 12 days after surgery, depending on each patient’s progress.
Can I travel after surgery?
Yes. For patients traveling from another city, we recommend remaining in Monterrey for at least the first 24–48 hours before taking a flight, as long as recovery is progressing appropriately.
How should I sleep?
During the first few days, we recommend sleeping on your back with your head slightly elevated to help control swelling.
Should I use cold compresses?
Yes. Cold compresses are especially helpful during the first few days and may be continued throughout the first week according to the instructions provided.
Can I bathe normally?
Yes. We recommend maintaining proper facial hygiene with water and a neutral soap, while avoiding rubbing, scrubbing, or applying direct pressure to the eyelids.
When can I exercise?
Intense exercise, heavy lifting, and significant physical exertion should be avoided for approximately 4 weeks. Activity should be resumed progressively.
When can I wear makeup?
We generally recommend waiting around 3–4 weeks, especially before applying makeup directly over the incisions. The exact timing depends on healing.
What should I avoid after surgery?
During recovery, avoid intense exercise, direct sun exposure, excessive heat, swimming pools, saunas, and rubbing or handling the eyelids. It is also important to follow all medication and incision-care instructions closely.
When can I return to my usual activities?
Many people can gradually return to social and work activities after 7–14 days, although some residual swelling may remain.
When will I see the final result?
Improvement is visible during the first few weeks, but tissues continue to settle and adapt over several months. Scars also continue to evolve and mature, generally over 4–6 months.
Will the result be the same in both eyes?
Every face has a degree of natural asymmetry. Surgery aims to improve balance and rejuvenate the eyes while respecting individual anatomy. The goal is not artificial symmetry, but a natural and harmonious result.
Is CO₂ laser treatment necessary with blepharoplasty?
Not in every case. It is a complementary treatment that may be recommended when we want to further improve skin quality and texture, fine lines, and firmness around the eyes. Its use is personalized for each patient.
What CO₂ laser technology do you use?
We use DEKA CO₂ laser technology, recognized for its precision and safety. Parameters are individualized according to the treatment area, skin phototype, and each patient’s specific needs.
What should I do before surgery?
Personalized preoperative instructions are provided. We generally request a minimum 8-hour fast and review medications, supplements, alcohol use, and tobacco use in advance. Some medications may need to be adjusted before surgery, always under medical guidance.
What if I live outside Monterrey?
We welcome patients from other cities and countries. An initial video consultation can be arranged to review the case and plan the procedure. For surgery, we recommend arriving in Monterrey at least one day beforehand and organizing the return trip according to postoperative progress.
